Boys’ basketball: Iken brothers are easy to identify

Share

There will be no trouble identifying the Iken brothers during Harvard-Westlake’s basketball season.

Ali, a junior guard, and brother Neil, a sophomore guard, both can shoot the ball from long range, but their distinctly different hair styles makes everyone wonder if they really are brothers.

Ali cuts his hair short. Neil has long bushy black hair. What happened to the younger brother following the older brother’s example?

“I used to have long hair, too, but it was too much of a hassle,” Ali said.

Ali’s long-range shooting skills will be an important asset for the Wolverines, who were working hard at practice on Tuesday under first-year Coach David Rebibo. Iken, plus senior guard Wolfgang Novogratz and 6-foot-5 freshman Cassius Stanley should make Harvard-Westlake a challenger to Crespi in the Mission League.

Rebibo, a former El Camino Real coach who was an assistant at San Francisco last season, has two former Reseda Cleveland head coaches as assistants _ Osiris Nalls and Chris Garton.
