The passports are packed and so is warm clothing, because the unbeaten Fairfax Lions (15-0) leave for Canada on Wednesday and begin action on Thursday in the Snowball Classic in Abbotsford, British Columbia.

“We’ve been getting better and improving,” Fairfax Coach Harvey Kitani said. “This team has been working since summer. We’ve had some tough games we were fortunate to come out on top.”

How good the Lions are won’t be decided until they play some showdown games later this month.

On Jan. 26, they face rival Westchester at home, then take on Palisades on Jan. 28 at home. The big game that could produce a sellout crowd is against top-ranked Sierra Canyon on Jan. 31 in the State Preview Classic at Fairfax. There’s also a Feb. 7 game against Santa Ana Mater Dei at the Nike Extravaganza.

Point guard Lindsey Drew, committed to Arizona State, has been having a big season, along with junior Donald Gipson. And senior Lorne Currie, despite coming off the bench, has been a key factor providing a boost offensively and defensively.

“He’s such a smart, intelligent player and can play any position,” Kitani said of Currie.
