Cross country: Palisades freshman Lila Copeland will be impact runner in City Section

City Section runners don’t give up

At Wednesday’s City Section cross country prelims, Palisades freshman Lila Copeland wasn’t supposed to go all out. Not with the sweltering heat at Pierce College.

After crossing the finish line in 19:47.99 and in second place in Division 1 behind Tanya Larbaoui of Granada Hills (19:41.31), Copeland dropped to the ground. Let’s just say the heat was pretty tough on her.

But beware of Copeland for next Saturday’s City finals. She might win it all as a freshman. She’s a transfer from Wildwood School in Los Angeles. She received a hardship waiver from the City Section and competed at last week’s league finals for the first time for Palisades.

There’s a chance one day she could become as good as former Palisades standout Marissa Williams.

In Division I boys, Ben Tiber of Granada Hills had the fastest time at 15:58.31. Granada Hills led the teams.
