Football: City Section season begins Thursday with Crenshaw opening

Share

Crenshaw will launch the City Section football season on Thursday night with a home game against San Marcos Mission Hills.

Veteran quarterback Daiyan Henley, a starter since his sophomore season, will lead the Cougars. Crenshaw scrimmaged South Gate, Lakewood and Grant last week and showed off some good running backs. The Cougars don’t have much size but they’re a feisty group.

The bulk of City Section teams are playing on Friday night.

There’s lots of new coaches making their debuts at Taft, Granada Hills, Roosevelt and Fremont, among others.

Among the intriguing openers are Bernstein at Grant. Grant has been gaining some attention with a good offense, led by quarterback Cameron Perry.

Freshman quarterback Luca Diamont makes his debut for Veince against Granada Hills. His brother plays at Indiana.

Roosevelt at Fairfax matches two solid programs. Hamilton is at Hawkins.

Among the intersectional games, Narbonne is playing at Gardena Serra (moved from El Camino College); Harvard-Westlake is at Birmingham, and Garfield is hosting Alemany, which debuts under new coach James Washington. All three should be competitive games.

There’s also Sylmar at Crespi; Sierra Canyon at Palisades and St. Genevieve at Sun Valley Poly.
