It’s going to be a little bit of a strange game on Friday night when St. Francis (4-0) plays at Calabasas (5-0). That’s because the head coaches are very familiar with each other.

In 1997, 1998 and 1999 at Alemany, the starting quarterback was Casey Clausen, the ball boy was 10-year-old Jimmy Clausen and the head coach was Jim Bonds.

Now Casey Clausen is head coach at Calabasas, Bonds is head coach at St. Francis and Jimmy Clausen is set to start this weekend at quarterback for the Chicago Bears.

“Time flies,” Bonds said.

“It’s awesome,” Casey Clausen said. “Coach Bonds is a great guy. He’s been a mentor for me.”

Calabasas pulled out a 13-10 win over Rio Mesa on Friday despite not using quarterback Tristan Gebbia, who sat out the game with a shoulder injury. Josh Madison filled in.

St. Francis defeated Canyon, 35-20.

Let’s hope Bonds isn’t using the same signals as his Alemany days.
