Football: Los Angeles players need no pregame speech to get fired up for Hawkins

The competitive Coliseum League has two huge games this weekend. On Friday, Los Angeles (5-2, 1-1) plays at Hawkins (7-0, 2-0). On Saturday, Dorsey (4-3, 1-1) plays Crenshaw (4-3, 2-0) at 10 a.m. at the Coliseum.

The Los Angeles-Hawkins game could determine if there’s going to be a tie in the end or will Hawkins run away with the title.

Last season, Los Angeles blew a 31-7 lead and ended up tying Hawkins, 31-31.

“This is a rivalry game for us,” Los Angeles Coach Eric Scott said. “We don’t have to get up for them.”

Hawkins is coming off a win over Dorsey in which Brandon Sanchez made a field goal with no time left. This game will show whether Hawkins can beat two top City teams in consecutive games.

Also, Hawkins and Los Angeles are expected to be favored to meet in the City Section Division II championship game on Dec. 3 at El Camino College, so it might be wise to keep a couple plays secret for the expected rematch in six weeks.
