Football: QB David Sills begins practice for El Camino College on Monday

Quarterback David Sills has finally made it to Southern California but not in the way anyone envisioned it happening.
In 2010, as a seventh-grader, Sills was offered a scholarship by then USC Coach Lane Kiffin and committed. By 2014, Kiffin was long gone and Sills ended up signing with West Virginia.
He played receiver last season as a freshman. Now he has decided he wants to return to the position he believes he can perform best at _ quarterback.
He has moved to Southern California and will begin practice on Monday at El Camino College for quarterback Coach Tim Kaub, who moved over from Santa Monica College and sent Troy Williams to Utah this year.
“I’m excited to get out there and play and start working out again,” Sills said Sunday.
He’ll face lots of competition for the quarterback position. Several competed for the starting job in the spring and more are arriving this fall.
Kaub has known Sills for years, having worked the Steve Clarkson camps that Sills attended.
“He just called me a couple weeks ago and told me he wanted to show he could play quarterback,” Kaub said.
Sills is 6 feet 4, 206 pounds and just turned 20. He has one year of eligibility at the junior college level and hopes to be recruited at quarterback. He worked out at quarterback for West Virginia in spring ball.
He’s staying with a friend on the USC football team until he finds a place to live. He has visited Southern California many times from attending camps.
As for all the attention and scrutiny he has received and lessons learned, Sills said, “Honestly, it’s working hard and focusing on you and not focusing on what other people are saying about you.”
