Football: QB Tyler Lytle shows off strong arm for Servite

Servite QB makes impression

Only a couple weeks before official football practice begins, Servite knows how much is riding on giving its standout 6-foot-5 quarterback Tyler Lytle time to throw.

Competing in a passing competition on Saturday at Redondo High, Lytle made it clear he has one of the strongest arms in Southern Californa. He’s a Colorado commit who throws a very good deep ball. He hit his younger brother, Spencer, for a touchdown. And the Friars have two outstanding receivers in junior Delon Hurt and sophomore Kyle Ford.

Servite linemen were taking part in a lineman competition nearby, and their development will be key to how well the Friars’ offense performs this fall.

St. Francis’ new quarterback, Michael Bonds, seems to be learning the offense well.

Narbonne junior quarterback Jalen Chatman is trying to develop the consistency that has been part of the Gauchos’ offensive tradition. That means while he shows off the ability to throw the deep pass, he has to cut out mistakes, too.

St. John Bosco has lots of depth in the secondary. That will be important in a season where teams will be throwing often.

Next Saturday, there will be a seven on seven tournament at Huntington Beach to end the summer.
