Defensive backs had better be sharp, in shape and ready for hand to hand combat, because the group of receivers this season in Southern California is once again loaded with quality depth. Most notably, there are teams with multiple top receivers.

Los Angeles Hawkins has the highly regarded duo of senior Joseph Lewis and junior Jalen Hall, plus has added transfer Eric Fuller.

Mater Dei has three outstanding receivers in brothers Osiris and Amon-ra St. Brown, plus sophomore Bru McCoy. Osiris committed to Stanford last week.

Cathedral has Jamire Calvin and Arex Flemings. St. John Bosco has Terrell Bynum and Berkeley Holman, a Northwestern commit.

Corona Centennial has Tyjon Lindsey, Manny Allen and Xavier Marshall, all of whom can be big-play performers.

Prince Ross returns at La Habra after a junior season in which he was unstoppable during the post season. Austin Osborne of Mission Viejo and Marquis Spiker of Murrieta Valley are juniors rising fast.

Grant Calcaterra of Santa Margarita is an Oklahoma commit coming off a big summer. Tyler Asemota of Sherman Oaks Notre Dame missed most of last season with a finger injury but he runs a 4.4 40 and has shown big-time skills in practices.

Servite has two underclassemen making major strides in sophomore Kyle Ford and junior Delon Hurt. Calabasas has Nebraska commit Keyshawn Johnson Jr. Charter Oak has Arizona commit Brian Casteel, who had 57 receptions. Logan Montgomery of Laguna Hills is fast and efficient. Kobe Smith of Gardena Serra is good for a couple highlight catches a game.

Tomorrow: A sneak peek at tight ends to watch.
