Football: San Clemente’s Jack Sears demonstrates how QBs need short-term memory

The best quarterbacks have short-term memory. In other words, when something bad happens, they move on.

San Clemente will be playing in the CIF state championship 1-A bowl game on Saturday in Sacramento because quarterback Jack Sears knows how to deal with adversity.

Sears had a pass intercepted and returned 100 yards for a touchdown on Saturday night against Edison, allowing the Chargers to take a 35-32 lead with 4:41 left.

Did he mope? No. Did he panic? No. Did he respond? Yes.

Sears guided the Tritons on a 16-play, 71-yard scoring drive to pull out a 39-35 victory. It was San Clemente’s fifth consecutive post-season victory and puts the Tritons into a 4 p.m. Saturday game against Loomis Del Oro at Sacramento State.

Sears, a USC commit, passed for 262 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 77 yards.

And he showed everyone how to react when things don’t go well.
