Girls’ basketball: Chelsey Gipson’s 25 points sends Palisades into tourney semifinals

The best girls’ basketball player in the City Section is Chelsey Gipson of Palisades, and she showed off her skills on Wednesday, scoring 25 points to help the Dolphins defeat Canyon Country Canyon, 64-56, in the quarterfinals of the Palisades tournament.

Fairmont Prep pulled off the upset of the night, knocking off defending state Open Division champion Chaminade, 67-59. Tristen Rollon scored 20 points. Melissa Wright had 18 for Chaminade.

Valencia defeated Alemany, 49-47, in overtime. Kayla Konrad, who scored 20 points, made a game-winning layup as time expired.

Harvard-Westlake defeated Serra, 52-45. The semifinals on Friday have Palisades vs. Fairmont Prep at 7 p.m. and Valencia vs. Harvard-Westlake at 8:30 p.m.

In consolation games, Laurynn Morris and Semaj Smith each scored 22 points to help St. Anthony defeat Hueneme, 81-46. Marlborough defeated Oaks Christian in overtime, 53-49. Parker Montgomery scored 33 points.

Agoura defeated La Canada, 53-38. Ventura defeated Taft, 57-17.
