Windward to ‘reassess’ its football program after forfeiting to Paraclete

Share

Windward Athlete Director Tyrone Powell said Tuesday the school needs to “reassess” the football program over the next two weeks to see if it can continue with its season after deciding to forfeit a game on Friday against Paraclete over safety concerns.

Powell said injuries and lack of experienced players led to the decision not to play Paraclete. Windward has a bye next week, and the school will decide whether to play Viewpoint and McAluliffe in its remaining Gold Coast League games.

Pasadena Blair has already decided to end its season because of safety concerns with dwindling numbers.

Teams forfeiting in the middle of the season has produced frustration for schools that lose games and revenue.

Powell said the school has been assessing the team each week since the season began. There are 28 players listed on the Windward roster on MaxPreps. Windward was 4-3 going into the Paraclete game.
