Big Bear, Tahoe and Mammoth ski resorts get snow — and more on the way
Mother Nature let loose with 3 to 5 inches of snow at Big Bear Wednesday and Thursday and more is on the way.
The story is the same in the Sierra, where Mammoth Mountain’s website is boasting 15 to 25 inches of snow the last couple of days.
It will be chilly at Mammoth Friday and Saturday with highs forecast only in the low 20s and nighttime lows in the single digits (try 9 and 6, for Friday and Saturday, respectively).
Big Bear will be a tad warmer with highs in the 30s for the next couple of days.
Up in Tahoe , meanwhile Homewood Mountain added 34 inches in the last three days, according to On The Snow.
The National Weather Service was advising travelers about winter storms through Saturday in the Greater Lake Tahoe area.
A “considerable” to “high” backcountry avalanche watch was issued for the central Sierra between Yuba Pass (California Highway 49) on the north and Ebbetts Pass (California Highway 4) on the south, including the Greater Lake Tahoe Area.
The U.S. Forest Service Sierra Avalanche Center on Tuesday said the watch is in effect through 7 a.m. Saturday.
An early-morning avalanche prompted Mammoth Mountain to close March 3. There were no serious injuries. Two people were injured by an avalanche the same day at Squaw Valley resort.
