Comedian Billy Gardell channels Jackie Gleason in his Treasure Island debut

Maybe Jackie Gleason’s blue collar comedy roles had an influence on the parts Billy Gardell takes. After all, he lists the former “Honeymooner” star as an influence for his role as officer Mike Biggs on “Mike & Molly” and even played a police officer on “My Name Is Earl.”
The comedian makes his Treasure Island debut on April 10, but be forewarned — guests must be 18 or older to attend, suggesting a bit raunchier show.

Aside from starring with Melissa McCarthy on the CBS comedy, Gardell’s newest gig has him hosting the syndicated “Monopoly Millionaires’ Club” premiering on March 28.

Gardell got paid $50 for his first comedy gig, but that came from a bet. Friends dared the Pittsburgh native to get up on stage during an open mic night at age 17 and he was hooked, and $50 richer.

Gardell’s comedy reflects his stops in every small town lounge, military base and comedy club along his way to Hollywood, giving him a grounded and down-to-earth viewpoint, much like Gleason. He touches on his rough childhood, wild adolescence and new family life during his show.
