Neo-soul forefather D’Angelo makes a comeback appearance in Las Vegas

Neo-soul and R&B music come to the Chelsea at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas in August when singer Michael D’Angelo Archer performs.

The musician, who goes by D’Angelo, is considered one of the founding fathers the neo-soul movement of the mid-to-late 1990s. He released his first album in 14 years in December when “Black Messiah” came out. It followed his sophomore album “Voodoo,” that launched D’Angelo to superstardom in 2000.

D’Angelo blames weight gain, a car crash and substance abuse for his reclusiveness but eased back into the spotlight with club appearances, a performance at the BET Awards and a set at the Bonnaroo music festival in 2012.

D’Angelo’s first major success came in 1994 with the single “U Will Know,” and shortly after, he released his debut solo album, “Brown Sugar,” which sold more than two million copies. The title track “Lady” was a huge success.

His sophomore album, “Voodoo,” debuted at No. 1 on the music charts and won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Album. The lead single “Untitled (How Does It Feel)” was a smash hit on the R&B charts and went on to win a Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal.
