Pack your lightsaber for Disney’s ‘Star Wars’ day on 2016 cruises

If you want to meet Darth Vader and Chewbacca, hop on board a Disney cruise next year.

Disney Cruise Line announced Wednesday that it would host Boba Fett, Stormtroopers and other characters on board selected seven-night sailings in 2016.

It’s a nice counterpoint to all the “Frozen” madness that’s coming to some sailings this summer.

The new “Star Wars” Day at Sea planned for western Caribbean itineraries will feature trivia games, arts and crafts and a party with fireworks and lasers, according to a Disney statement.

“Star Wars” fever is running high with the anticipated release this year of “Star Wars: Episode VII -- The Force Awakens” by director J.J. Abrams. Online movie ticket company Fandango in December deemed it the top “fan pick” for a movie this year.

Disney bought the Lucasfilm empire in 2012 and plans to feature original stars Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) and Harrison Ford (Han Solo) in “The Force Awakens.”

But back to the cruise events.

Little ones will have an opportunity to learn lightsaber moves from a Jedi master at a Jedi Training Academy. For adults, a nightclub will be transformed into the fictional Mos Eisley cantina and serve “Star Wars”-themed cocktails.

The first six “Star Wars” films will be shown at sea as well as episodes of the animated series “Star Wars Rebels.”

The “Star Wars” special day is scheduled for Disney Fantasy sailings from Port Canaveral, Fla., on Jan. 9 and 23, Feb. 6 and 20, March 5 and 19, and April 2 and 16. The ship stops in Cozumel, Mexico; Grand Cayman in the Cayman Islands; and the private Castaway Cay in the Bahamas.
