Golf champ Fred Couples has sold his house in the Santa Barbara-area community of Montecito for $9.56 million.

The 11,000-square-foot, two-story Monterey colonial had been listed last year at $12.5 million. The main house, built in 1939, has nine bedrooms and 7 1/2 bathrooms. There is an arched front entry, a formal dining room with a beamed ceiling and a master bedroom suite with a sitting area and office space. The 2,300-square-foot guesthouse has three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a kitchen.

The 5-acre ocean view property includes a putting green, a tennis court, rose gardens and a swimming pool.

With career earnings of more than $23 million, the 15-time PGA Tour winner -- including the 1992 Masters -- has played in 15 events so far in 2009, made the cut in nine and surpassed the $1-million money mark.

He purchased the home in 1999 for $4 million -- an amount he equaled in his LG Skins Game winnings in 2007 to become the first player to attain that mark.

Couples, 49, has relocated to La Quinta, Calif.

Sharon R. Fisher and Vickie G. Craig of Village Properties, Montecito, shared the listing with Dan Encell of Prudential California Realty, Montecito. Colleen Beall, also of Village Properties, represented the buyer.
