James Gandolfini as Carol in 'Where the Wild Things Are'

( Matt Nettheim, Associated Press ) Though all the creatures in Max's imaginary world were lumbering giants encased in fake fur with faces that allowed for virtually no expression, nobody lumbers with quite as much emotion as Gandolfini (seen here with Max Records, who plays Max). As Carol, there was the perpetual slump of the shoulders ready to absorb all the disappointments he knew were coming. Despite the sad cast of his face, we can see the happiness, frustration and mischief when the moves are married to Gandolfini's thick mozzarella voice. And when Carol turns destructive, using the full force of his arm to crush the fortress, well, it had Tony's rage behind it ... |
