One of the year's biggest box office successes earned Oscar nominations for actress <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PECLB0000008076" title="Melissa McCarthy" href="/topic/entertainment/melissa-mccarthy-PECLB0000008076.topic">Melissa McCarthy</a> and its star Kristin Wiig (as co-writer of the film's original screenplay), but despite an expanded best picture race, the comedy failed to place in the top category. Perhaps pooping in the sink is good enough for the acting categories, but Academy voters just couldn't see it as best picture. This is a particularly tough snub considering there were only nine nominated films for best picture out of a possible 10.
