Best rock performance by a duo/group with vocal: Yeasayer New York's Yeasayer brought to a life a captivating rock 'n' roll safari at an afternoon showcase this year. Keyboards sounded like they belonged in a Peter Gabriel song one moment, and mimicked bird calls in another. The guitars gave the act a bit of roughness, but some dizzying, chant-like harmonies softened things up. At times atmospheric, and at times a bit prog rock, Yeasayer maintains its accessibility by wrapping its adventurous side around trance-inducing melodies. A cut like Sunrise was hypnotic live, with a flash of keyboards and a swirl of tribal beats laying down before some laid-back vocals. Read more about Yeasayers SXSW performance here.
