Southwest Airlines is launching nonstop service on March 10 linking Lindbergh Field to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. At least for now, flights will operate Saturdays and Sundays only. A good reason to get packing: The all-inclusive oceanfront Occidental Nuevo Vallarta has slashed rates by 30 percent. Through April, couples can stay for as little as $202 per night — with all meals, drinks, mini-bar treats and most activities included. Starting in May, as temps begin to sizzle, rates drop even more: Through August, rooms for two start at $183, and it’s still all-inclusive. Even taxes are included in these prices. The 274-room resort includes five restaurants, two pools, a fitness center, plus tennis, basketball and volleyball courts. There’s no resort fee, valet parking is free, but in-room Wi-Fi costs $45 per week. If you’re planning on going abroad this year and don’t already have a passport, get yours this month. On April 2, U.S. passport fees are going up $10. Adult passports will cost $145; kids under 16 will pay $115. Passport Cards, which are valid for border crossings and travel by sea to Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the Caribbean but are not valid for international air travel, will increase to $65 for adults and $50 for those under 16. The State Department says the $10 price hike is a bump in its “execution” fee and is aimed at better covering its costs for processing passport applications. The price hike will not apply to the $110 fee for renewing adult passports by mail. (Mail renewals are not allowed for those under 16.)
