Two homes are for lease on estate where escape artist Harry Houdini practiced

Two houses that make up the so-called Harry Houdini Estate in Hollywood Hills are for lease at $7,500 and $16,500 a month.

Caves, hidden tunnels and a deep-water tank where the illusionist reportedly would practice underwater escapes remain on the property, according to Multiple Listing Service details. Houdini didn’t own the property but stayed in a guesthouse with his wife, Bess, while in Los Angeles filming. Photographic evidence shows him diving into the swimming pool.

Built in Edwardian style in the early 1900s, the structures were restored after the 1959 Laurel Canyon fire and were later rebuilt.

An expansive lawn, terraced gardens filled with exotic plants, a rock waterfall, a natural-spring pond, hiking trails and gazebos make up the four acres of fenced and gated grounds. Outdoor fireplaces, a heated pool and an outdoor spa are among the amenities.

The larger and less expensive of the houses features a great room with a beamed cathedral ceiling, a formal dining room, three bedrooms, three bathrooms and 2,060 square feet of living space.

The smaller home, at 1,240 square feet, has two bedrooms and two bathrooms.

Houdini, who died in 1926 at 52, toured the U.S. and Europe performing such feats as slipping out of handcuffs, taking off a straitjacket underwater and being buried alive. Among his films were “The Master Mystery” (1919), “Terror Island” (1920) and “The Man From Beyond” (1922).
