Brush fire contained in La Cañada Flintridge

Fire crews responded Monday night to a brush fire in La Cañada Flintridge that was surrounded before it could cause major damage.

The call came in about 9 p.m. when flames, covering about a half-acre, were spotted behind a YMCA, said Inspector Joey Marron of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The flames were moving uphill toward some structures.

“The biggest concern is that there were houses,” Marron said. “They were not immediately threatened, but they were in the path of the fire.”

Firefighters immediately put themselves in place to protect the structures while also encircling the flames. By about 10 p.m., the brush fire appeared to be contained within the fire lines.

Marron put the approximate location of the fire as 1901 Parkdale Place. A preliminary estimate put the size of the burn area at three to four acres.
