Earthquake: 2.8 quake strikes near Willows, California

A shallow magnitude 2.8 earthquake was reported Monday evening nine miles from Willows, Calif., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 11:24 p.m. Pacific time at a depth of 11.2 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 14 miles from Chico, Calif., 24 miles from Oroville, Calif., 24 miles from Paradise, Calif. and 71 miles from Sacramento.

In the past 10 days, there have been no earthquakes magnitude 3.0 and greater centered nearby.
