Earthquake: 3.5 quake strikes near Gilroy, Calif.

A shallow, magnitude-3.5 earthquake was reported Monday morning five miles from Gilroy, Calif., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 9:10 a.m. at a depth of 3.1 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was nine miles from Hollister, 14 miles from Morgan Hill and 16 miles from Watsonville, Calif.

In the past 10 days, there have been two earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby.
