Earthquake: 3.0 quake strikes near Anza, Calif.

A shallow magnitude 3.0 earthquake was reported Saturday afternoon 14 miles from Anza, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 3:29 p.m. at a depth of 8.7 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 14 miles from La Quinta, 16 miles from Palm Desert, and 17 miles from Rancho Mirage.

In the past 10 days, there has been one earthquake of magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby.
