Earthquake: 3.0 quake strikes near Dana Point

A shallow magnitude 3.0 earthquake was reported Thursday morning 16 miles from Dana Point, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 11:09 a.m. PDT.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 17 miles from San Clemente, 19 miles from San Juan Capistrano and 20 miles from Laguna Niguel.

In the last 10 days, there have been no earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby.
