Earthquake: 3.1 quake strikes near Yucca Valley, Calif.

A shallow magnitude 3.1 earthquake was reported Monday evening 23 miles from Yucca Valley, Calif., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 8:40 p.m. Pacific time at a depth of 1.2 mile.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 25 miles from Big Bear City, Calif.

In the past 10 days, there has been one earthquake of magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby.
