3.3 quake is latest to hit Baldwin Hills

A shallow magnitude 3.3 earthquake was reported Saturday morning centered in the Baldwin Hills area, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The temblor occurred at 10:06 a.m. PDT at a depth of 5.6 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was two miles north of Inglewood and three miles from Culver City.

It’s the latest of three quakes to be felt in the area in the last two months.

Earlier in May, a 3.8 magnitude quake was reported. A 3.5 magnitude quake in the same area April 13.

While some residents have questioned whether the quakes were caused by oil extraction in the area, experts say the quakes occurred far too deep underground to have been triggered by drilling.
