22 pounds of heroin seized, suspected trafficker arrested
Law enforcement authorities arrested a suspected drug trafficker in Paramount and seized more than 22 pounds of high-grade heroin that they say was destined for Ventura County and other parts of Southern California.
The heroin was smuggled from Mexico and was found at two Paramount homes as part of a three-month investigation that was launched by a multi-agency task force, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department said Monday.
Department officials said Everado Mayo, 23, was arrested on suspicion of working for a Mexican drug-trafficking organization and helping smuggle heroin into the United States.
Mayo was apprehended at one of the Paramount homes, where authorities say more than 10 pounds of heroin was seized. Heroin was also found at the second Paramount home in the 14900 block of Downey Avenue.
Mayo is a Mexican citizen who lives in the U.S. border town of Calexico in Imperial County, authorities said. He was being held in County Jail in Los Angeles on $250,000 bail.
Mayo is scheduled to appear Tuesday in Superior Court in Los Angeles County.
