3 dead, 2 injured as Tesla rear-ends Toyota on 14 Freeway in Palmdale

Three people were killed and two others seriously injured late Friday when a Tesla traveling southbound on the 14 Freeway in the Antelope Valley plowed into the rear of another vehicle, authorities said.

The crash occurred in Palmdale about 10:35 p.m. when the Tesla crashed into a Toyota Corolla on the freeway near Avenue S, killing the Toyota’s 40-year-old male driver and two passengers, a 13-year-old boy and an 8-year-old boy, according to a statement from California Highway Patrol Officer Jordan Richards.

The dead victims have not been identified.

Two other passengers in the Toyota, a 6-year-old boy and Tyree Lavon Nash, 31, of Lancaster, were transported to hospitals with serious injuries, authorities said.

The CHP shut down the roadway early Saturday as it investigated the incident.

The Tesla driver, identified as Ric Garrison, suffered minor injuries but was released from the scene Friday night.

In an incident early Friday, a man stole a Tesla from a dealership, led officers on a near-100 mph chase and eventually crashed into a building in West Hollywood.
