Anaheim police fatally shot a woman armed with knives who was suspected of stabbing another woman Sunday evening at a local laundromat.

Officers responded about 5:30 p.m. to a report of a stabbing at a laundromat in the 900 block of South Euclid Street, Lt. Bob Dunn said.

Witnesses told police that the suspected assailant had fled to her apartment on South Roberts Street behind the laundromat, Dunn said.

Officers located her apartment and attempted to make contact with her, but she refused to come out, he said.

Just before 6 p.m., the woman exited her apartment “armed with two knives” and was shot by officers in the courtyard of the apartment complex, Dunn said.

The woman was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

“Several officers” were involved in the shooting, Dunn said. Police did not release any more information about how many officers opened fire or how many bullets struck the woman.

Dunn said that the woman who was reportedly stabbed in the laundromat was taken to a hospital with minor wounds.

Because police were involved in the shooting, the Orange County district attorney’s office will also investigate the incident.
