An autopsy is scheduled for Friday for a 14-year-old boy who died after collapsing during high school football practice in Anaheim.

Mitchell Cook collapsed about 4 p.m. just after the Canyon High School football team finished warming up and was preparing to start its regular practice, KTLA-TV reported.

“We didn’t even do anything tiring. He just walked by me and then he fell to the ground right behind me,” teammate Dawson McMullen told KCAL-TV.

In a statement, Orange Unified School District Supt. Michael L. Christensen said coaches at practice performed CPR on Mitchell in an attempt to save his life.

The teen died several hours later at the hospital, police said.

“The school is providing mental health and counseling services to the family, students and Canyon High School community members who need assistance through the grieving process,” Christensen told KTLA in a statement.
