Bodies found in Simi Valley the result of murder-suicide, police say

Simi Valley police believe a murder-suicide claimed the lives of two neighbors found dead on a neighborhood yard and sidewalk Tuesday morning.

Police say James Richard Wahe, 59, shot Pamela McClain, 61, before turning the gun on himself. Investigators, though, were still trying to determine what led to the shooting considering there did not appear to be any immediate evidence of a romantic relationship between the two, according to Simi Valley police Cmdr. David Livingstone.

Ventura County firefighters found Wahe and McClain in the 3300 block of Billie Court after responding to a call from what a nearby resident thought was someone lying injured in front of a residence around 7 a.m.

“It’s a baffling case. The female victim, from what we can determine, was just a random victim,” Livingstone said.

Livingstone said the bodies were found in separate locations about 30 to 40 feet apart -- McClain on a sidewalk in front of a residence and Wahe on the lawn of another home, KTLA News reported.

Police didn’t receive any calls reporting gunshots that morning, although officials did find a handgun at the scene, Livingstone said.

Based on a preliminary investigation, it appears Wahe and McClain died shortly before they were found, Livingstone added.

Anyone with information about the deaths was asked to call the Simi Valley Police Detective Unit at (805) 583-6969.
