A body was recovered Monday from the bottom of a seaside cliff in San Pedro.

The body was reported by a passerby in the 1000 block of Paseo del Mar in Point Fermin Park, said Brian Humphrey, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department.

No specifics about the body were released.

The remains were transferred to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office for identification. Police are investigating.

The cause of death is unclear.

Numerous people have fallen to their deaths from the bluffs -- some by accident, some by suicide -- after the spot was made popular by the movie “Chinatown.”
