An 11-year-old boy who had no pulse when he was pulled out of a Hollywood motel pool is breathing on his own, authorities said Wednesday.

His 36-year-old mother and 12-year-old sister, who also had no pulses when they were rescued, remain on life support. The boy continues to be hospitalized, said Jane Kim, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department.

The mother jumped into the pool fully clothed Monday afternoon when she saw her children had wandered into the deep end. She had limited swimming ability and also struggled, Kim said.

A nearby resident who was walking by pulled them out when he heard two of the family’s other children screaming. He leaped over the fence, pulled all three people from the water and began to perform CPR until paramedics arrived.

Paramedics were called to the Hollywood Premiere Motel in the 5300 block of Hollywood Boulevard about 3:30 p.m., fire officials said.

The aging Hollywood Premiere motel is a two-story building near the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Western Avenue. The pool is fenced off and measures 7 1/2 feet at its deepest point. A sign on a wall reads “No Lifeguard.”

None of those involved has been identified.
