Two 2-year-old boys, who are part of set of triplets, were injured Tuesday when they fell out a second-story apartment window in Hawthorne, authorities said.

One boy was critically injured while the other suffered moderate injuries, said Inspector Rick Flores of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The boys were sleeping in their bed next to a slat window about 11:50 a.m. in their parent’s home when they woke up from their nap.

One boy crawled out of a hole in the slat window, then the second boy followed, said Sheriff’s Lt. Sergio Escobedo. The third boy was not injured.

A neighbor saw the boys crawl out of the window and quickly called police.

Authorities believe the fall was an accident as they found no evidence of foul play, Escobedo said.

The Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services were notified, which he said is standard procedure.
