Carjacking suspect fatally shot at Mexican border
SAN DIEGO - A carjacking suspect from Riverside County was shot and killed Saturday by U.S. law enforcement officers near the U.S.-Mexico border, officials said.
The suspect, driving a stolen Chevrolet Impala, had led California Highway Patrol officers on a southbound chase, reaching speeds of up to 100 mph before arriving at the border.
After driving east on California 905, the driver came to a stop in the Otay Mesa area and began to drive toward the U.S. officers in an apparent effort to escape arrest. Officers from U.S. Customs and Border Protection opened fire.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were hurt.
