Chance of rain Wednesday as temperatures fall this week

After a weekend of hot, dry conditions, temperatures are expected to drop more than 20 degrees later this week, with rain possible on Wednesday.

The cooler temperatures and potential rain will offer some respite from several days of hot temperatures that, combined with gusty winds and dry landscapes, created dangerous fire conditions.

Daytime temperatures on Monday will hover in the mid-80s in the inland valleys and the lower-70s at the beaches, but they will drop rapidly starting Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Clouds will start to blow in Tuesday, with temperatures falling to the mid-70s inland and mid-60s at the beaches. Then on Wednesday, mostly cloudy conditions will bring a 50% chance of rain, although the weather service said “the first storm of the season is never a sure thing.” Daytime temperatures are expected to remain in the mid-60s across the region.

The storm is expected to pass overnight Wednesday, leaving partly cloudy skies and mild temperatures in its wake Thursday and Friday.
