Organizers of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival expressed sadness Friday over the death of a concertgoer after an apparent drug or alcohol overdose.

The woman, identified as Kimchi Truong of Oakland, collapsed in the taxi area of the festival about 2 a.m. Saturday and was taken to JFK Memorial Hospital in Indio, said Sgt. Curt James of the sheriff-coroner’s office.

Truong was later taken to the Desert Regional Medical Center, where she remained until she died about 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

“We are saddened to learn the individual has died. We believe this to be an unfortunate but isolated incident,” concert promoter Goldenvoice said in a statement to the Desert Sun newspaper. “Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends.”

James said he believes this was the first death at the annual desert festival this year. The office is still investigating, he said, and will run toxicology tests to determine what caused the woman’s death. Test results will take about four weeks, he said.
