Police search for shooter who killed woman in Compton

Gunshots were fired near the intersection of W. 154th Street and Central Avenue, police said

Los Angeles County law enforcement authorities were searching Thursday night for the suspect who shot and killed a woman in Compton on Christmas night.

At around 7:30 p.m., the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department received a call that gunshots had been fired near the intersection of W. 154th Street and Central Avenue, Lt. Brian Gellis said.

In a house on the 1400 block of 154th Street, homicide investigators found a woman who had been shot. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

"It looked like there were several gunshots fired," Gellis said. He said deputies saw no sign of the shooter.

Officials said they could not discuss the nature of the woman's injuries. Her name has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.
