Deputies fatally shoot two suspects in East L.A.

Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies shot and killed two men during an early morning confrontation in East Los Angeles, authorities said.

The incident began about 2:30 a.m. when a 911 caller reported that a man in a vehicle occupied by three people had pointed a handgun at him, sheriff’s Lt. John Corina told KTLA-TV Channel 5.

Deputies followed the vehicle to the 5300 block of Verona Street, where the vehicle then pulled into a driveway, authorities said.

Deputies approached the car and at some point opened fire, killing two men inside the vehicle, authorities said. At least one other suspect involved in the incident remains at large.

No deputies were injured in the incident.

It was not clear what prompted the shooting. No further details were immediately available.
