Police find dog with clasp pierced in its leg; seek owner

Police in Bakersfield said they are seeking information on an injured dog that was found with a spring clasp intentionally pierced into his leg.

A $1,000 reward has been offered for details about the Labrador-mix found Tuesday afternoon wandering the streets of Bakersfield, said Julie Johnson, executive director of the Bakersfield Animal Care Center.

“It’s humanity at its worst,” she said.

Authorities believe someone intentionally pierced the clasp into the dog’s right rear leg through his skin behind his Achilles tendon.

The clasp is similar to those used on dog chains and leashes, according to Bakersfield Police Sgt. Joseph Grubbs.

A veterinarian believes the dog was possibly wearing the clasp for five to seven days, he said.

The dog also had large, deep gashes on its two front legs.

Marley’s Mutts Dog Rescue, a nonprofit group that offered the reward, took over the dog’s care and have named the dog “Boy.”
