Police arrest L.A. woman in fire at ‘Mrs. Doubtfire’ house
A 25-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of trying to burn down a San Francisco home used in the making of the movie “Mrs. Doubtfire,” starring the late Robin Williams.
Tyqwon Eugenen Welch of Los Angeles was arrested Wednesday morning in San Jose after arson investigators received information about her whereabouts, said San Francisco Police Officer Albie Esparza.
She was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, criminal threats, trespassing, arson and possession of an incendiary device, he said. Police arrested her on suspicion of murder because she set the fire knowing the homeowner was inside and could be hurt, Esparza said.
She is being held at the San Francisco County Jail.
Police and arson investigators were called about 8:14 p.m. Monday to the home in the 2600 block of Steiner Street after the homeowner put out a fire that was intentionally set, Esparza said.
The homeowner, Douglas Ousterhout, told police that he smelled gasoline and saw his front doormat was smoldering. Ousterhout, a plastic surgeon, doused the flames and called authorities.
The fire damaged the home’s front door and garage.
The Victorian home was used in filming Williams’ 1993 movie about a father separated from his wife who poses as a nanny to his two children in an attempt to win them back.
After Williams committed suicide last year, fans flocked to the Pacific Heights home and set up a memorial with flowers and photographs.
Police could not immediately say more about the charges or bail in Wednesday’s arrest.
