A woman has been arrested on suspicion of felony manslaughter after the car she was driving crashed into a curb in Boyle Heights, ran off the road and hit a power pole, leaving one of her two passengers dead.

The crash occurred about 9:15 p.m. Tuesday on Washington Boulevard east of Soto Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

“She lost control of the vehicle, causing it to travel in a northeast direction and collided with a curb, then ran off the roadway and collided with a power pole,” said LAPD Officer Sally Madera.

A passenger in the front seat suffered “severe injuries” and died at a hospital, Madera said. The victim’s identity was not immediately released.

The other passenger also was injured and was in critical condition at a hospital.

Madera said the driver had minor injuries and was found to have been intoxicated. She was arrested on suspicion of felony manslaughter while driving under the influence.

An investigation was ongoing.

Another traffic collision about 10:02 p.m. Tuesday in the 200 block of West Foothill Boulevard in San Dimas also left a person dead.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said a man was driving a pickup truck eastbound on Foothill Boulevard “at a high rate of speed” and struck the rear end of another pickup, causing the first one to “leave the roadway, striking a tree in the center median.”

La Verne resident Kevin Bohannon, 61, the driver of the first pickup, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office. Authorities said the investigation is ongoing.
