Drug deal ‘ripoff’ said to spark fatal shooting at Valley College lot

The shooting death of a man in a parking lot of L.A. Valley College was sparked by a drug deal “ripoff,” according to investigators.

Raheen Taylor, 31, and Derrick Wilson, 25, were arrested in connection with the alleged homicide Sunday in San Jacinto, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.

The men were allegedly involved in the shooting death of 31-year-old Ricardo Zetino of Tujunga on Saturday about 7:25 p.m. in a parking lot of Valley College at 5800 Fulton Ave. in Valley Glen, authorities said.

Zetino was found by police officers outside of a vehicle in the parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.

HOMICIDE REPORT: A story for every victim

Authorities did not elaborate on the circumstances surrounding the alleged drug deal “ripoff,” but the choice of the college parking lot was “random,” according to a statement from the Sheriff’s Department.

There were no classes or campus activities going on when the shooting occurred, authorities said.

Taylor and Wilson were arrested without incident and two guns were recovered along with other evidence, officials said. Drugs and a vehicle the men were driving were also seized.

The men, who are being held without bail, are scheduled to be arraigned in court Tuesday.
