DWP truck hits, kills 17-year-old cyclist in San Fernando Valley
A vehicle driven by a city employee fatally struck a 17-year-old boy riding his bicycle in the San Fernando Valley, authorities said Wednesday.
Around 3:15 p.m., a vehicle driven by an electrical worker with the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power struck and killed the teen in the 16200 block of San Fernando Mission Boulevard, said fire department spokeswoman Katherine Main.
Los Angeles Police Department Capt. John McMahon told KTLA-TV that the victim was a student at nearby John F. Kennedy High School and was riding southbound on Woodley Avenue when he was hit.
The name of the victim was not released.
“LADWP extends heartfelt sympathies to the family and loved ones of the deceased, a 17-year-old male pedestrian,” the department said in a statement.
