East L.A. College evacuated after report of gunman on campus

Students at East Los Angeles College were evacuated Thursday morning because of report of a gunman on campus, authorities said.

An employee at the L.A. County sheriff’s station in Monterey Park said the community college campus was being shut down. Students on Twitter said all classes were canceled for the day.

Sheriff’s department officials described the situation as an unconfirmed report of an active shooter.

Nearby Brightwood Elementary School was also put on lockdown.

According to KTLA-TV, a person called 911 and reported that someone with an assault rifle was headed to a local school.
