Former L.A. County deputy pleads not guilty in child porn case
A former Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy pleaded not guilty Wednesday to child porn charges stemming from a months-long investigation by state and federal authorities earlier this year.
Lorne Reed, 32, is charged with one count each of distributing and possessing child pornography. If convicted, he faces up to five years and eight months in prison.
Reed, who lives in Santa Fe Springs, was arrested last month after a multiagency task force served a search warrant at his home. Investigators found 45 child pornography files on his laptop, county prosecutors said.
Los Angeles police officials told the L.A. Times in August that the investigation was launched in April after Reed was suspected of using the Internet to share child porn. Reed had resigned from the Sheriff’s Department in February 2013, authorities said.
At the request of prosecutors, Reed’s bail was doubled to $40,000 at his arraignment. His next court date is scheduled for Oct. 6.
