Multiple fatalities reported in fiery three-car crash in Chino

Share

Multiple people were killed in a three-car accident late Friday in Chino, police said.

The accident happened just before 9 p.m. near the intersection of Pine and Hellman avenues.

Three cars were involved, two of which were “fully engulfed in flames,” said Tamrin Olden, spokeswoman for Chino police.

“We don’t know how many people were in the cars that burned,” she said. “One of the cars is burned so badly we don’t even know what it is.”

The driver of the third car, which did not catch fire, survived uninjured, Olden said.

A woman at the scene, who identified herself to KCAL-TV as a nurse, said she lifted an airbag from one victim only to find the man dead. She said victims in another vehicle were trapped by flames and twisted metal.

Police told KCAL that they were searching a nearby field for additional victims who may have been ejected from the vehicles.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Police will have the area closed indefinitely and warn motorists to avoid the area.
